A Story of God’s Faithfulness in War-Torn Sudan

In July of 2022, it was an exciting time in ministry at KidZ at Heart as we began a brand new training network in the Middle East and North Africa. It included countries like Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, and Sudan. At this time, Adel Bukhary, who lives in Sudan, joined our staff and began working to set up a Transforming KidZ Ministry training network there.

However, his plans of growing the network were derailed when a civil war broke out in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan in April of this year. Adel and his family were forced to flee to another city called Kosti because of the conflict. He writes:

“When we were forced to flee our homes in Khartoum, my wife and I fled to Kosti seeking for peace and a safe place.

When we arrived in Kosti, we prayed to God to lead us and guide us to right church in this town. So, we started looking for church there, and finally we've found a church and it has loving believers so, we feel good to attend Sunday worship every week. 

I started introducing myself as a national director of KidZ at Heart in Sudan to church leaders, youths and  even community leaders. Helping them in thinking about what we should do to help internally displaced people from Khartoum War. How do we do that? Who will support us? And which group of people in the community will we focus on and why is it important particularly to focus on this group?

Here, I shared with them the idea of KidZ at Heart: what it is and how it is helping churches and communities to love God and others. This organization helps parents, Sunday school  teachers and church leaders to teach children to love God and others. This war has brought to Kosti so many people as well as children too, so they're in need of many things; physically, spiritually and psychologically. So, this organization helps them develop their experience among children and gives them new spiritual skills to use Bible effectively and trains parents and teachers on many topics.”

It was a blessing to hear about how God has protected Adel and his family, but we are also excited to see the way that Adel has continued to work so faithfully in his ministry in spite of the difficult circumstances. He continues to connect with church leaders in his area, and earlier this month they held a KidZ at Heart training event with around 30 participants.
