Intentional Grandparenting

In Psalm 78: 4, God’s people are passionately called to “tell the next generations the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power and the wonders he has done.” Deuteronomy 4:9 makes the calling clearer by specifically telling us to “teach them to your children and to your children’s children.”

KidZ at Heart believes that God has given the opportunity and responsibility of everyone in the senior generation (“the big people”) to connect the hearts of their loved ones (“the little people”) with his heart. Our goal is to encourage our senior generations to reach the ones that are coming next. Together, we can fall deeply in love with the Lord Jesus Christ by creating spaces for wonder, awe, and connection with God for the younger generations.

Our mission of Transformative Grandparenting is to:

  • Cast the biblical vision to all generations, especially to the senior generations

  • Proclaim to this senior generation their divine calling

  • Open a path of connecting with the hearts of the younger generation by removing the obstacle that says the senior generations have a diminished role in the family

  • Address the needs of the senior generations with encouragement and tools to use themselves and with their families

  • Awaken the senior generations to the need of standing strong in their faith, being courageous prayer warriors, and guiding the hearts of their family to fall deeply in love with Jesus

Words of Encouragement

  • God has an unbelievable destiny for us in our later decades of life: to connect the hearts of our children and grandchildren with the heart of the Lord. We are to point them towards their Lord so that His Holy Spirit will bring them home to heaven. The goal is for us to spend eternity together.

  • "... you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." I Peter 2:9

  • If you as a "GRAND" have a heart for your grown child, your grandchild or some special child in your church or neighborhood, do not run first to them talking to them about Jesus. Instead, run first to Jesus, talking to Him about your loved one.

  • Remember that God loves your grandchild more than you do. He has loved your grandchild to the point of shedding His own blood for them. (John 3:16)

  • Just as God had a plan for us as parents in our 30's and 40's, so too does He have a plan for us as grandparents in our 60's, 70's and beyond.

    Grandparent’s Prayer

Grandparenting is not easy -- especially in today’s world. Yet, that is when the Lord has called each of us to step into this amazing senior role within our families. We can be the matriarch or patriarch that He destined us to be only by His grace and power. As the aging disciple, John, stated in 2 John 4, it is a great joy to us for our children and grandchildren to walk in the truth. But we have an Enemy whose goal is to steal their hearts, minds and very lives. It is critical for each of us grandparents to join the army of seniors and pray diligently for the children and grandchildren in the ranks behind us. Will you fall to your knees today and use the mighty weapon of prayer that God has given us to defeat the Enemy?

    Dearest Lord Jesus,

I come to you today and lift to you each of my children and grandchildren. These loved ones are precious to me. But I know they are even more adored by You, their Lord and Savior. Please bless them with good health, sound minds, healthy emotions and loving hearts towards You, their families and friends. Guide and guard them in this challenging world such that each one comes to know You intimately, love You passionately and serve You faithfully all the days of their lives. Equip me to be the Godly grandparent You envisioned when You created me. May I always love them as You love them, understand them as You understand them and view them as You view them. When difficult times arise, Lord, help me always to remember that You have all the answers for You are greater than anything we, or our children or grandchildren, will ever face. And when the time comes for each of them to leave this earth, Lord, please bring them home to You so that we may live together eternally. All this I ask in Your precious and powerful Name, Jesus! Amen
